The MLB offseason is officially underway, as it was announced that former Orioles minor leaguer Daz Cameron has been re-acquired by the team from the Athletics.
Cameron spent the 2023 minor league season with the Orioles organization, spending all 110 games with Triple-A Norfolk where he slashed .268/.346/.452 with a .798 OPS. That season, he collected 103 hits, 23 doubles and 16 home runs and would be a part of the team that would win the Triple-A Championship.
Cameron would sign with the A’s that offseason, where he would actually spend some time in the majors, playing a total of 66 games. In those games, he put together a .200/.258/.329 slash line with a .588 OPS. He had 34 hits, five doubles, a triple and five home runs while knocking in 15 RBIs.
Cameron is, of course, mostly known for his father Mike Cameron, who was a former All-Star and a three-time Gold Glove winner.
At just 27 years old, the McDonough, Georgia, product has mostly been a career minor leaguer, posting a .254/.341/.416 slash line with a .757 OPS in 751 career minor league games. He has spent time with both the A’s and the Detroit Tigers in his almost decade-long pro career.
This is simply a depth move by GM Mike Elias, as Cameron will fight for either a fourth outfield spot in spring training or spend the season again with Norfolk.
