The Bowie Baysox were back in action this past week as they hosted the Altoona Curve, the Double-A affiliate for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
It was a very good week for the Baysox all around. Jackson Holliday continued to amaze, John Means took another positive step in his rehab and a trio of players each netted eight hits in these six games.
To start, let’s talk about Means, as he continues to work his way back to the major leagues. He was given two starts at Double-A Bowie, and in these two outings, Means totaled 5.1 innings, allowing five hits and five earned runs.
Tyler Wells was also making a rehab apprarence this week. In his two innings pitched, he allowed just one run via a home run.
Ignacio Feliz had himself a week out of the bullpen. In five innings across three appearances, Feliz allowed just one run with five strikeouts and a win.
Another very solid week came from the arm of Connor Loeprich, who appeared in two games, including an impromptu 1.2-inning outing on Wednesday when he came in relief of Connor Gillispie, who left via injury. Throughout the week, Loeprich was perfect, allowing no runs and no hits across four innings total.
Offensively, the Baysox shined this week. As usual, they were led by No. 1 overall prospect Jackson Holliday. This week, Holliday went 5-for-21 with three singles and two triples. He also netted three RBIs, with the same amount of walks as strikeouts. You know, just an average week for the 19-year-old.
Max Wagner had himself one of the eight-hit weeks from a Bowie player, as he continues to show why he was a high draft pick out of the Clemson. Wagner had himself a home run on Wednesday, as well as four singles and three doubles with four RBIs for the week.
Dylan Beavers also had an eight-hit week, as his eight came in just 21 at-bats. This included two doubles, and Beavers scored six runs himself for the series.
To cap off the eight-hit week list is Silas Ardoin, who may still be a relatively unknown prospect. However, that will change very quickly, as Ardoin has played in just eight games at Double-A before this series began, and he is wasting no time showing he belongs.
Ardoin went 8-for-18 with five singles, two doubles and his first Double-A home run. He drove in three while scoring four times himself.
Overall, it was a very good week for the Baysox, who now travel to Erie, PA, to take on the Double-A affiliate for the Detroit Tigers, the Erie SeaWolves. This next series begins on Tuesday, August 22, at 6:05 p.m. EST.
