Battle of the Beltway Part 2, Nats come to Baltimore: Series Preview 7/23/21 – 7/25/21

It is time for part two of the 2021 MASN Bowl! The Nationals currently lead this Beltway Series, three games to none. This time in Baltimore, these two teams interlocked by their TV networks face off for three more.

On the mound for the Orioles will be Jorge López, Matt Harvey, and John Means. Opposite of these Oriole arms will be Patrick Corbin, Max Scherzer, and Jon Lester. Don’t let their ages fool you; that starting three for the Nationals will be a true task for this Orioles lineup.

The Orioles and Nationals are natural rivals, with one team being significantly stronger than the other. However, the Orioles definitely stand a chance against the Nats, as they have a few X-factors going into this series.

-Factors:

John Means is set to make his second appearance after a stint on the I.L. He allowed five runs in his last appearance on June 20 against the Rays, the most he’s given up this season. Means could be a deal-breaker for this series, and hopefully he can tap into his first-half success to end this series on a high note.

Austin Hays is the biggest X-factor for me, however. In games one and three, he will get to hit against a left-handed pitcher. So far in 2021, Hays is hitting .337 against southpaws with a .928 OPS. Hitting right behind Mullins with a lefty on the mound for Hays could be a game-changer.

Starting Lineups:

1. Alcides Escobar 2B
2. Trea Turner SS
3. Juan Soto RF
4. Josh Bell 1B
5. Ryan Zimmerman DH
6. Josh Harrison 3B
7. Gerardo Parra LF
