Taylor Ward’s tenure in Baltimore has come to an end.

Acquired from the Los Angeles Angels last November in exchange for former top pitching prospect Grayson Rodriguez, Ward arrived with lofty expectations after a career-best 36-home run campaign in 2025.
While Ward never replicated that power surge in orange and black, he still provided exactly what the Orioles believed they were acquiring: a professional hitter with a disciplined approach, quality at-bats and a steady veteran presence.
Throughout the season, Ward consistently found ways to impact games, even as the home run totals dipped. His ability to work counts, draw walks and consistently reach base made him one of the club’s most reliable contributors.
Whether batting leadoff or clean-up, Ward gave the Orioles competitive at-bats almost every night and helped stabilize a lineup that has battled inconsistency throughout the first four months of the season.
Ward appeared in 97 games for the Orioles in 2026, slashing .256/.387/.368 with seven home runs, 27 RBIs, 57 runs scored and three stolen bases. His elite plate discipline led to him finishing his Orioles tenure with a strong .755 OPS and one of the highest on-base percentages on the club.
Ward, 32, is set to become a free agent after the season, and with the Birds balancing its postseason hopes against the future of the organization, the front office elected to capitalize on his trade value rather than risk losing him for nothing this winter.
In return for Ward, the Orioles acquired 27-year-old right-hander Alex Hoppe, 24-year-old right-hander Harrison Kreiling and 26-year-old right-hander Brock Moore.
Hoppe is in his rookie season and has appeared in 24 games out of the bullpen for Seattle, posting a 5.79 ERA across 28 innings. He has allowed 18 earned runs, walked 11 and struck out 34.
Kreiling was recently activated from the 60-day injured list and has made four appearances in his professional debut between the Rookie-Level Arizona Complex League and Low-A. Across 10.2 innings, he owns a 1.69 ERA with 16 strikeouts.
Moore has split the season between High-A and Double-A, posting a 3.72 ERA in 31 relief appearances. Across 38.2 innings, he has allowed 16 earned runs, walked 20 and struck out 67 batters.
