We have our first Battery Breakdown of the 2026 season, and it starts with an impressive run at the plate for one of the Orioles’ newer prospects.

Down on the farm, first baseman Victor Figueroa recently saw his organization-best 21-game on-base streak come to an end on May 3 with the Frederick Keys.

The streak was one of the most notable early-season performances in the O’s farm system and offers a closer look at what Figueroa could develop into.

Figueroa was originally selected by the San Diego Padres in the 18th round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Florida Southwestern State College. After appearing in 64 games across Rookie Ball and Low-A, he was dealt to the Orioles as part of the trade that sent Ryan O’Hearn and Ramón Laureano to San Diego at the 2025 trade deadline.

His first taste of the Orioles system was challenging, as he posted a .584 OPS in High-A Aberdeen. But a fresh start appears to have done wonders for the 22-year-old.

During his 21-game on-base streak, Figueroa became a key piece of a Frederick lineup featuring names such as the O’s No. 1 prospect Nate George and former first-round pick Ike Irish. Across that stretch, he slashed .342/.432/.697 with a 1.129 OPS, collecting 26 hits, four doubles, one triple and seven home runs. He also drew 11 walks and drove in 17 runs in that span.

Figueroa opened the year with a seven-game hitting streak, highlighted by three consecutive multi-hit performances. Just five games into the season, his batting average climbed as high as .421.

He recorded seven multi-hit games during the streak, including a three-hit performance on April 22, when he launched two home runs for his first multi-homer game of the season.

What makes Figueroa’s surge particularly intriguing is that it did not come from a highly-regarded prospect. He has never appeared on a top 30 prospect list and was arguably the least notable player acquired from San Diego in the O’Hearn-Laureano deal.

Still, through the first month of 2026, few prospects in the organization have made a bigger impact. While more heralded names such as Boston Bateman, Cobb Hightower and Tyson Neighbors entered the season with greater expectations, Figueroa has outperformed them all to this point.

It is still obviously very early, but the Orioles may have uncovered a legitimate diamond in the rough.
