The MLB Draft is here, and there is so much to talk about, especially when it comes to the Baltimore Orioles.
The Orioles had seven picks during day one, including three competitive balance picks from free agency and trades.
The O’s also had a record bonus pool at $18,874,500, the most by any organization in this year’s draft.
Let’s recap day one of the 2025 MLB Draft for the Orioles by reviewing each selection made.
Round 1, Pick 19: Ike Irish – OF/C, Auburn University

With the 19th overall pick, the Orioles selected outfielder/catcher Ike Irish out of Auburn University. Irish is a 21-year-old who was ranked 11th in MLB Pipeline’s top 250 prospects list.
Irish was an offensive machine this past season with the Tigers. He slashed an astonishing .364/.469/.710 while crushing 19 home runs and collecting 58 RBIs.
In three collegiate seasons, Irish hit .350 in 160 games with 39 homers and 167 RBIs, posting a 1.060 OPS. This past season, he played 12 games behind the plate and 45 in the outfield.
Irish having the ability to play the outfield and provide much-needed catching depth really helps his development and his chances to move quickly through the farm.
Player Comparisons: Ryan O’Hearn, Seiya Suzuki, Daulton Varsho
Round 1, Pick 30: Caden Bodine – C, Coast Carolina University

With the 30th overall pick, the Orioles selected catcher Caden Bodine out of Coastal Carolina University. Bodine is a 21-year-old who was ranked 32nd on MLB Pipeline’s top 250 prospects list.
Bodine hit a collegiate low 318/.454/.461 in his junior year with Coastal Carolina, but he still managed to hit 18 doubles.
One main thing about Bodine, though, is he has a great eye at the plate, as he accumulated 112 walks to just 68 strikeouts in his collegiate career. He is also a great defender, having 49 assists and making just one error behind the plate.
Player Comparisons: J.T. Realmuto, A.J. Pierzynski, Brian McCann
Round 1, Pick 31: Wehiwa Aloy – INF, University of Arkansas

With the 31st overall pick, the Orioles selected infielder Wehiwa Aloy out of the University of Arkansas. Aloy is a 21-year-old who was ranked 17th on MLB Pipeline’s top 250 prospects list.
Coming off a 21-home-run season and hitting .350/.434/.673 with 68 RBIs, Aloy earned SEC Player of the Year honors for the 2025 season. The Wailuku, Hawaii, native hit 49 home runs in 181 collegiate games.
Although he is extremely athletic, Aloy does have a below-average speed tool and profiles more as a second or third baseman rather than a shortstop. However, what he lacks in speed is made up for with his cannon of an arm.
Player Comparisons: Carlos Correa, Xander Bogaerts, Bo Bichette
Round 1, Pick 37: Slater de Brun – OF, Summit High School

With the 37th overall pick, the Orioles selected Slater de Brun, an outfielder out of Summit High School in Oregon. de Brun is an 18-year-old old who was ranked 24th in MLB Pipeline’s top 250 prospects list.
de Brun is a speedster and a defensive monster, to say the least. MLB Pipeline has him at a 65 rating on his run tool and a 60 rating in his fielding tool.
The Pacific Northwest native has very impressive bat-to-ball skills, with an advanced eye at the plate. He has plus range and is an excellent defender who can roam center field for a long time at Camden Yards
Player Comparisons: Corbin Caroll, Cedric Mullins, Jake McCarthy
Round 2, Pick 58: Joseph Dzierwa – LHP, Michigan State

With the 58th overall pick, the Orioles selected Joseph Dzierwa, a left-handed pitcher out of Michigan State. Dzierwa is a 21-year-old who was ranked 74th in MLB Pipeline’s top 250 prospects list.
Dzierwa really improved himself as a prospect heading into his junior year at Michigan State. After back-to-back seasons with an ERA over four, Dzierwa carried a 3.04 ERA over a collegiate-high 91.2 innings and 15 starts.
The 6-foot-8 lefty held batters to a .179 average this past season with a .982 WHIP and 10.2 Ks/9.
Player Comparisons: Ryan Yarborough, Andrew Heaney, Braxton Garrett
Round 2, Pick 69: J.T. Quinn – RHP, University of Georgia

With the 69th overall pick, the Orioles selected right-handed pitcher JT Quinn out of the University of Georgia. Quinn is a 21-year-old who was ranked 127th on MLB Pipeline’s top 250 prospects list.
Quinn was mostly used as a reliever, making 17 appearances out of Georgia’s bullpen, but he did make seven starts.
He carried a 2.75 ERA, collected 49 strikeouts and held batters to a .184 average last season with the Dawgs.
Player Comparisons: Ryan Presley, Griffin Jax, Evan Phillips
Round 3, Pick 93: R.J. Austin – OF, Vanderbilt University

With the 93rd overall pick, the Orioles selected R.J. Austin, an outfielder out of Vanderbilt University. Austin is a 21-year-old who was ranked 112th in MLB Pipeline’s top 250 prospects list.
Austin is all speed, to say the least. He collected 54 stolen bases in his collegiate career while also hitting .283/.369/.415. Austin finished his sophomore season with collegiate-highs in doubles (15) and triples (4).
With plus speed and a high baseball IQ, Austin is a proficient basestealer. He covers ground and has good defensive instincts in center field.
Player Comparison: Billy Hamilton, Enrique Bradfield Jr., Dee Strange-Gordon
