The Baltimore Orioles have added to their infield depth, as they have decided to claim Jacob Amaya off waivers from the Chicago White Sox.

Amaya, 26, first came to MLB when the Los Angeles Dodgers drafted him in the 11th round of the 2017 draft out of South Hills High School. He would play in the Dodgers’ minor league system from 2017-2022, where he would have a .741 OPS in 667 MiLB games, including 616 total hits and 62 home runs.

Amaya would be traded from the Dodgers to the Miami Marlins in January of 2023 for fellow infielder Miguel Rojas.

Amaya would make his MLB debut with the Marlins on June 18, 2023, against the Washington Nationals, when he would collect his first hit, RBI and stolen base. He would end up playing four games in the majors that season with the Marlins and collected just two hits and two RBIs in nine at-bats.

Amaya would be traded again in April of 2024 to the Houston Astros and would play one game with the organization. He would be cut by the Astros, and the White Sox would pick him up towards the end of August.

The California product played in 23 games with the White Sox, posting a slash line of .179/.225/.194 with a .419 OPS. He collected 12 hits, one double, three RBIs and a stolen base.

In order to make room for Amaya on the 40-man roster, the Orioles have designated right-hander Roansy Contreras for assignment.

Just a typical Elias move to let everyone know he hasn’t fallen asleep at the switch. Next week Amaya will be tossed aside for some other poor smuck and Eias will be lauded for doing something, anything. If Amaya wasn’t good enough for the White Sux, isn’t that saying something?
