Connor Norby’s patience and determination are finally paying off.
According to multiple industry sources, the Orioles’ No. 6 prospect is being called up to join the big league team on their road trip, which begins in Toronto tonight.
Norby is getting the call, along with reliever Nick Vespi, after Jorge Mateo was placed in concussion protocol after a freak accident while in the on-deck circle in Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Mateo has not yet officially been placed on the injured list.

Norby has appeared in 51 games (14 at second, 18 in left field, 15 in right field and four at DH) for the Norfolk Tides, slashing .286/.374/.510/.884 while accumulating 59 hits.
The former second-round pick from East Carolina University has 17 doubles, three triples, nine home runs, 36 RBIs and has scored 42 runs while walking 27 times and stealing seven bases at the Triple-A level this season.
Norby, who turns 24 on Saturday, will be making his major league debut at some point during the road trip, and, with his ability to play multiple positions, offers a similar versatility defensively as Mateo brings to the Orioles.

Norby isn’t yet on the club’s 40-man roster, but the O’s have a vacancy there after recently losing right-hander Kaleb Ort off waivers to the Houston Astros.
We are excited to see another one of the Baby Birds make his way to the club and look forward to seeing Norby make his own mark with the team.
Welcome to the bigs, Connor Norby. May the Tides continue to rise as your feathers grow.
UPDATE: The Orioles made it official, as they have called up Norby after placing Mateo on the seven-day concussion injured list. Vespi has also been recalled after Thyago Vieira was designated for assignment.
