The Delmarva Shorebirds have taken their series over the Lynchburg Hillcats, winning three of the five games.

After multiple rainouts and a doubleheader. The Shorebirds’ pitching put together their best series statistically and helped Delmarva finish the series on a three-game winning streak.

The pitching staff posted a collective 3.92 ERA in the series, giving up 39 hits, 17 earned runs, walking 19 batters and striking out 38. They also had two holds and earned two saves in three attempts.

The offense was struggling in this series, however. Delmarva slashed .184/.239/.277 with a .515 OPS and only had 26 total hits in the series, with eight going for extra bases.

As always, let’s review the three players who shined in this week’s series for the Shorebirds.

Offensive MVP: Stiven Acevedo – OF

Stiven Acevedo, who’s coming fresh off the injured list, really showed out as the best offensive player in the series.

In three games, Acevedo slashed .300/.364/.400 with a .763 OPS. He had three hits, a double, an RBI and stole two bases in two attempts.

Acevedo has been up and down all season, but this series really helped his stat sheet. In 24 games this season, Acevedo is slashing .215/.262/.354 with a .616 OPS, collecting 17 hits, five doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs while stealing 11 bases without being thrown out.

MVP on the mound: Blake Money – RHP

After being known for his time in the Little League World Series, Blake Money has put together solid outings for Delmarva, and that continued in this series.

Money started the final game of the series, pitching four innings of shutout baseball. He gave up three hits, walked just one batter and struck out four.

Money has been solid this season in his eight games and five starts. He’s posted a 5.02 ERA in 28.2 innings and has struck out 33 batters while only walking nine. While the stats show a high ERA, the former LSU Tiger is showing his true potential moving forward.

Overall MVP: Braxton Bragg – RHP

Braxton Bragg started game two of the doubleheader after an unfortunate one-hit loss in game one for Delmarva.

The 23-year-old right-hander tossed four innings of shutout baseball, striking out five batters and walking none.

Bragg has been a beast this season in his seven games and three starts, posting a 2.25 ERA in 24 innings. The Kansas City native has struck out 33 batters while only walking four and has also held batters to a .207 batting average on the year.

The Shorebirds head back home this week to host the Columbia Fireflies, with the first game being Tuesday, May 21, at 11:05 a.m. EST.
