The Bowie Baysox picked up a series win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies this past week, winning four out of the six games in the series.

Bowie’s pitching was lights out in this series, to say the least, putting together a collective 1.38 ERA and giving up eight earned runs while striking out 57 batters to just 17 walks. The pitching staff held the Rumble Ponies to 35 total hits in the series.

The offensive side for the Baysox was did just enough, putting together a .633 OPS and collecting 43 hits, 13 for extra bases.

Let’s review our weekly standout prospect performers from this past week.

Offensive MVP: Collin Burns – INF

Burns showed up this series in a big way. In five games, the 24-year-old slashed .438/.550/.688 with a 1.238 OPS, tallying seven total hits, a double, a home run and five RBIs. He also walked four times.

Burns definitely has had an overall better season in 2024 than in 2023. He is currently slashing .243/.344/.364 with a .708 OPS in 33 games and has 26 total hits, three doubles, two triples and two home runs with 20 RBIs and 14 walks on the season.

MVP on the Mound: Alex Pham – RHP

A pitching prospect who I was very high on coming into the season put together a strong performance in his start against Binghamton. Pham tossed 4.2 innings of two-hit, one-run baseball, walking just one and striking out seven batters.

While Pham hasn’t been the unstoppable force I expected at the beginning of the season, the O’s No. 24 prospect has still put together eight solid starts this season. The 24-year-old right-hander has posted a 5.29 ERA in 34 innings and has struck out 40 batters.

Pham has also held batters to a .232 batting average and has a WHIP of 1.32. He’s starting to get himself in a grove, so watch out moving forward for him to break out down on the farm.

Overall MVP: Dylan Beavers – OF

I feel like every week, I can talk about Dylan Beavers. That’s because he can really swing the lumber like a pro.

The O’s version of Kyle Tucker played in six games and slashed .381/.381/.762 with a 1.143 OPS against Binghamton. He tallied eight hits, two doubles, two home runs and two RBIs and also stole two bases.

Beavers has been a hitting machine for the Baysox this season, posting a .302 batting average and a .890 OPS in 116 at-bats. He has just five home runs and 15 RBIs, but when you are mostly a leadoff batter, the RBI number will be affected.

Moment of the Series: Watch out for the diving Rhodes

During Friday’s game, outfielder John Rhodes made a spectacular diving catch to save extra bases during a 1-1 game in the sixth. Take a look.

The Baysox are back home this week, as they will host the Richmond Flying Squirrels. The first game is Tuesday, May 21, with a 6:05 p.m. EST start time. (There might be some of The Baltimore Battery crew at the game!)
