Another home series down for the Bowie Baysox, and it’s a series win as they faced the Erie Seawolves.

This series win was held together by multiple comebacks, both on Tuesday and Wednesday, and a key win on Friday.

The Baysox offense slashed .220/.333/.421 with a .755 OPS in the series victory. They collected 35 hits and 14 extra-base hits, with nine of them being home runs, including three players with multi-home-runs in the series.

The pitching wasn’t the strong point this series, as the staff had a 6.07 ERA as a whole, allowing 39 hits, 29 earned runs, 26 walks and 51 strikeouts.

Our three players that really stood out showed high potential this series, so let’s review who shined this week for Bowie.

Offensive MVP: Anthony Servideo – INF

The former Ole Miss Rebel had one heck of a series, to say the least.

In four games, Servideo slashed .500/.600/1.083 with a team-high 1.683 OPS. He had six hits, a double and two home runs. You can also add three RBIs, three walks and two steals to his name.

Servideo has been improving mightily in 2024. He has played in 22 Double-A games and is slashing .236/.321/.417 with a .738 OPS. His season totals include 17 hits, four doubles, three home runs and eight RBIs.

MVP on the Mound: Cameron Weston – RHP

In his first series with the Baysox after his promotion, Cameron Weston was hands down the best pitcher of the series.

Weston entered Wednesday’s game and pitched four innings of two-hit, no-run baseball and also had a team-high eight strikeouts in that game, picking up the win.

Weston has been one of the best pitchers in the entire O’s farm system this season. In five games and four starts, Weston has a 0.44 ERA in 20.2 innings and has given up nine hits, a singular earned run, has walked seven batters and has struck out 27. He has also held batters to just a .136 batting average.

All-Around Performer: Samuel Basallo – C/1B

After a phenomenal offensive performance in the series prior, Samuel Basallo decided that it wasn’t enough.

Basallo, in four games against Erie, slashed .313/.389/.750 with a 1.139 OPS and collected five hits, a double, two home runs and a team-high seven RBIs while stealing a base. Basallo had a scare on Thursday, however, when his elbow was hit by a pitch, but he wasn’t seriously injured.

The No. 15 prospect in baseball has slashed .263/.290/.453 with a .743 OPS on the season. He’s posted 25 hits, three doubles, five home runs and 15 RBIs. Basallo is also back behind the plate and can show off that cannon of an arm.

Moment of the Series: Beavers takes the lead

During Wednesday’s game, the Baysox were tied at four in the eighth inning with a runner on. Up stepped Dylan Beavers, who was hitless through his first three at-bats. The O’s No. 7 prospect would hit a two-run homer to give the Baysox a 6-4 lead, which would be the final score.

This is a very special week for Bowie, as they finish up their homestand against the best team in the Eastern League in the Akron RubberDucks. The first game is Tuesday, May 7, with a 6:35 p.m. EST start time.

The Baysox have a special guest with them for the upcoming series, as 2023 All-Star, Orioles outfielder Austin Hays, is participating in some rehab games this week, according to O’s manager Brandon Hyde.

The Baysox currently sit fourth in the Eastern League with a 14-12 record. They are just three games behind the first place RubberDucks, so this next series is a big one for Bowie.
