The MiLB season is unfortunately coming to an end soon, which means that playoffs are on the horizon. This series against Erie was an important one for the Bowie Baysox, as they are currently still in the playoff hunt and have been much better in the second half of the season.

After going 3-3 against the SeaWolves, Bowie is now sitting at 28-23, which is technically tied for second with Richmond but being that the first half standings winner in Erie is in first, both Bowie and Richmond are tied for first.

Bowie’s offense was electric this series, slashing a clean .260/.347/.409 with a .756 OPS. They collected 54 total hits, 13 doubles, six home runs and stole six bases in eight attempts. The pitching staff was also solid, as they carried a 4.85 ERA as a team and had a 1.37 WHIP.

Three players really stood out in the series and continued to have fantastic seasons. Let’s look at who showed up big time this week.

TRACE BRIGHT – RHP

Let’s start with the only pitcher on the list. Trace Bright has had a good season thus fa, and that really showed in his appearance this past week.

Bright started a game and had a no decision, going four innings and giving up just two hits. He also walked two batters and struck out five.

This was the first game in Bowie for Bright, so it really helped as a confidence booster for the young pitcher. In his season, he has pitched in 23 games and carries a 4.15 ERA while holding a 2-6 record. He has struck out 132 and holds a WHIP of 1.32.

BILLY COOK – UTL

It’s not very common that a minor league prospect has a chant after him, but thanks to Bowie’s own Evan Johnson, we now hear “LET HIM COOK” yelled at home games on the daily. With the week Cook had, he absolutely cooked at the plate, with a .368 average and an OPS of .935.

Cook collected seven hits, six singles, one home run and two RBIs. He also walked two times and stole three bases in three attempts.

Cook now has a season OPS of .777 and has surpassed 100 hits on the season. He has been a vital utility player who could make a huge impact for the Orioles in the near future.

DYLAN BEAVERS – OF

Dylan Beavers’ week might win him Eastern League Player of the Week honors. He has been a huge addition to the Baysox since being called up, and this week was no different.

Beavers hit for a .421 average with an OBP of .542 and an OPS of 1.068. The O’s No. 9 prospect tallied eight hits, six singles, two doubles and an RBI, walking four times in the process.

Beavers now has a .350 batting average in Bowie and has 28 total hits, with seven of them being doubles. He also now has a .289 average on the season between two levels.

Bowie will start their next series on Tuesday, August 29, as they will head to Akron, Ohio, to take on the Rubberducks. The first game will start at 6:35 p.m. EST.
