The Bowie Baysox struggled against the Somerset Patriots on both the hitting and pitching side, winning just one of the six games played.

The offense carried a .169 batting average and a .554 OPS in these six games, collecting a total of 31 hits, walking 25 times and striking out 66 times. The only stat that looked good was that Bowie had eight stolen bases on nine total attempts.

The Bowie pitching staff also struggled, as they carried a 6.89 ERA and had a WHIP that was almost two. They gave up 37 earned runs and walked 31 batters. On the positive side, they struck out 50 batters and collected a save.

Despite that, the team really struggled this series. However, four players really put together a great series and showed out against Somerset.

GREG CULLEN – INF

Greg Cullen had a great series in total and has been really good since he came back from his injury. In five games this series, Cullen slashed .357/.550/.571 with a 1.121 OPS. He collected five hits, four singles, one home run, four RBIs, five walks and stole a base and now has 15 total hits, eight RBIs and a .718 OPS in Bowie this season.

DONTA’ WILLIAMS – OF

Donta’ Williams had a productive series against Somerset, playing in all six games and slashing .211/.318/.526 with a .844 OPS. He collected four hits, two singles, two home runs, four RBIs and walked three times. Williams now has seven home runs on the season and has 42 total hits. He also has 37 walks and 34 RBIs on the year.

CONNER LOEPRICH – RHP

Conner Loeprich had a great series out of the bullpen and continues to put on a good season at Bowie. Loeprich pitched in two games, and in 3.1 innings pitched, he gave up three hits, one earned run, walked one batter and struck out seven. Loeprich now has a 3.74 ERA in 33.2 innings and also had only given up 14 earned runs and struck out 41 total batters.

CARLOS TAVERA – RHP

Carlos Tavera had two starts in the series and pitched a total of eight innings where he gave up eight hits and three earned runs. He walked six batters but struck out 10. Tavera not only has 75 strikeouts this year with Bowie, but he also finished off the best month of his minor league career. Tavera had a 2.74 ERA in the month of July and held batters to a .190 average.

The Baysox are 13-14 in the second half and are now fourth in the Southwest Division of the Eastern League. They begin a home series against Portland Tuesday. Bowie does have some fireworks promotions Friday and Saturday, and on Sunday, they are giving away a Colton Cowser bobblehead.

While writing this article, the Baysox actually added a new prospect to their roster, as catcher Silas Ardoin just got promoted from High-A Aberdeen and will most likely make his debut on Tuesday.
