The Bowie Baysox have yet to lose a series in the month of June. They went on to play the Altoona Curve on the road and got the job done, going 4-3 on the series, including playing in a doubleheader.

During the series, Bowie as a team slashed .283/.370/.488 with a .857 OPS. They had 68 total hits, 13 doubles, 12 home runs and 37 RBIs. They also had 28 walks and went 4-for-6 in stolen bases.

The pitching staff for Bowie put together a 3.00 ERA and a WHIP of 1.28. They also went 3-for-3 in saves and only gave up 19 earned runs.

BILLY COOK – OF

Billy Cook’s June has been astonishing so far, and that continued with the series against Altoona.

Cook played in six of the games and slashed .435/.480.696 with a 1.176 OPS in 23 at-bats. He had 10 total hits, eight singles, two home runs, four RBIs and went 2-for-2 in stolen bases. Cook continues a June where he has a .966 OPS and a .350 average.

OFREIDY GÓMEZ – RHP

Ofreidy Gómez has completely turned his season around in Bowie, and in the Altoona series was locked down out of the pen and continues to be locked in when he hits the mound.

Gómez pitched in three games and carried a 1.80 ERA in five total innings. He gave up three hits, one earned run, three walks and struck out seven.

The 27-year-old Dominican also picked up a save in the series. After his outings this week, that puts him at a 0.96 ERA in Bowie this season, and he is now 3-for-3 in save opportunities.

CARLOS TAVERA – RHP

Carlos Tavera’s season with Bowie has been up and down, to say the least. While the 2023 season has not been his greatest, he still has had some great pitching appearances.

Tavera got the win in his only start this series, going five innings and giving up two hits, no earned runs, two walks and five strikeouts. This now puts Tavera’s ERA at 5.86 on the season.

COBY MAYO – INF

It was unfortunate to see his on-base streak end, but Coby Mayo is still killing it at the plate. The 21-year-old put together a huge series and continues to put up an insane month of June.

Mayo played in all seven games and slashed .462/.563/1.000 with a 1.563 OPS in 26 at-bats. He had 12 total hits, seven runs, four singles, five doubles and three home runs. He also had five RBIs and walked six times and now has a season average of .313 and an OPS that is over 1.000 in 243 total at-bats.

Mayo earned himself another Eastern League Player of the Week honor for his efforts, further proving why he’s one of the most under-talked-about prospects in all of baseball.

Bowie is now 31-38 on the season, and while still in last place, they are only 6.5 game back of the leading Erie Seawolves. There are 12 games left in the first half of the season, so the window of clinching the playoffs in the first half is fading fast.

Bowie will begin their next series on Wednesday, June 28, at home against the Somerset Patriots. This series includes a few fun promotions, so we highly recommend you make it out to Prince George’s Stadium this week for the final homestand of the first half.
