The Bowie Baysox have won their first series since the opening series against Harford back in the beginning of April. Behind phenomenal pitching and great power, the Baysox were able to take four out of the six games and move to a 16-27 record on the season.

Bowie’s offense showed off so much power in this series, putting up eight home runs, including two home runs by three different hitters. The pitching was also dominant, as they put together a 2.42 ERA and went 4-4 on saves. The pitching also had a 1.13 WHIP and a 10.38 K/9.

Four players really stood out in this series, and they aren’t the usual suspects you might see in these recaps.

JUSTIN ARMBRUESTER – RHP

So, this name isn’t new when it comes to Bowie week by week. But Armbruester continued his dominant Double-A season with a phenomenal pitching performance on Saturday. Armbruester went five innings, giving up three hits, no runs, two walks and six strikeouts while also picking up the win.

Armbruester continues a season where, in his nine starts, he has a 3-1 record with a 1.40 ERA in 45 innings pitched. The O’s No. 30 prospect might be in Norfolk sooner than we think.

DONTA’ WILLIAMS – OF

It’s pretty obvious that Williams’ season with Bowie has not gone as well as he would have hoped offensively, but in this series, he showed out.

Williams had a slash line of .333/.600/.833 with a 1.433 OPS in the four games he played. He had four total hits, scored four runs, hit two home runs, collected five RBIs and four walks and went 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts.

Hopefully, this is the start of a big turnaround for Wiliams, and his offense becomes just as good as his defense in center field.

CARLOS TAVERA – RHP

Carlos Tavera had a huge breakout game this week, although his season on the mound has been rocky to start. He showed signs of improvement this past week, as he went five no-hit innings with two walks and five strikeouts while also picking up the win.

Tavera’s season consists of a 1-2 record with a 5.47 ERA in eight games. He has currently been used as a spot starter type of pitcher, and splits outings with right-hander Houston Roth from time to time.

Tavera’s performance even earned him Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors.

COBY MAYO – INF

What a week for Coby Mayo! He had a phenomenal series and was named to MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects list after Angels shortstop Zach Neto graduated on Sunday.

Mayo’s series was around the same as it has been recently, as he has been on a tear. Mayo had seven total hits, three doubles, two home runs, six RBIs and three walks. He also put together a .280/.514/.640 slash line with a 1.154 OPS.

Mayo continues his season with an OPS of .907 and an average of .272. Mayo also has 14 doubles, seven home runs, 22 RBIs and 25 walks this season.

The Baysox will begin a home stint this week against the Nationals’ Double-A affiliate, the Harrisburg Senators. The first game is Tuesday, May 30, at 6:35 p.m. EST.

The Baysox do have some different promotions this week as Friday, June 2, is 90’s night, and Sunday, June 4, is Kid’s Autograph Day. Hopefully, you get to make it to Prince George’s Stadium to see your Bowie Baysox.
