Around the Nest: Edition 2 – Mateo ready to open up

The Baltimore Orioles’ 2022 season was a success in many ways, as there was growth within the organization and the product on the field.

We, as fans, were privy to seeing future stars in Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson, rookies becoming household names and making expectations for 2023 extremely high.

With all the excitement surrounding the success of the season, one player had the opportunity to showcase the skills that made him a top prospect in two different organizations.

With his first real opportunity to play every day, this talented player turned into a defensive wizard and led the junior circuit in stolen bases.

Of course, if you’re an Orioles fan, you know I’m talking about Jorge Mateo.

The surprising breakout of Mateo was one of the reasons the Orioles stayed in playoff contention until the final week of the season.

Mateo would explode on the scene by leading all AL shortstops in fielding opportunities and defensive runs saved. Though he was snubbed in Gold Glove voting, Mateo would take home the Fielding Bible Award, joining Matt Wieters (2011) and Manny Machado (2013) as the only Orioles to win the award.

Now, as Mateo experiences his first offseason after a full year and preparation for 2023, he is ready to open up and have an intimate conversation with fans.

Mateo will join REVEL for a chance to connect with fans.

REVEL is a live, virtual platform where athletes share stories, relive moments and engage with fans. It showcases athletes and what makes them human.

The Dominican Republic native will discuss getting his opportunity with the Orioles, working with his younger brother while on the Orioles and being a parent with an autistic child.

The REVEL event, named The Defining Season, will be held December 20, 2022, at 7 P.M.

To purchase tickets as part of a live audience, have the chance to ask questions and get the opportunity to be closer to Jorge Mateo, you can visit revelmoments.com.

Mateo was a 16-year-old phenom who catapulted to stardom with determination, hard work and hustle that turned into a key component of the Orioles’ turnaround.

As Mateo opens up, we at The Baltimore Battery encourage fans to take the chance to look into the man apart from the athlete.
