Shorebirds split series against Mudcats, continue to struggle

The Delmarva Shorebirds had another series that either ended in a losing or tying way.

In a very disappointing year thus far, the Shorebirds cannot find a way to get it together in the home stretch of the season. But one infielder stood out in the series and continues his solid season.

While the Shorebirds struggled, Isaac De Leon, a 20-year-old shortstop, has had a very up and down season. But this week, he turned things up.

Batting a clean 6-for-19 (.315 BA) with two singles, three doubles and one home run, De Leon picked up a clean 5 RBIs in the series, bringing his season total up to 47.

The Shorebirds offensively struggled in the series. Between many games with multiple strikeouts and two games where they got shutout, they need to hope that the new call-ups help them out in the future.

The Shorebirds currently sit at a 16-26 record in the second half. They are currently last in the Carolina League North Standings by 10.5 games heading down the stretch.

Delmarva will start a series against the Salem Red Sox tonight and will try and gain some ground on the Fredericksburg Nationals. First game starts at 7:05 p.m. EST from Carillion Clinic Field.
