The Bowie Baysox came into the week in first place and had the highest chance to make the Double-A postseason in the second half. But the Akron RubberDucks had other plans.
With a missing offense and many blown saves, the Baysox went from a possible 5-1 series win to splitting the series. But there are some players who had a solid week.
Do we ever go a week without talking about a Bowie infielder that popped off? The answer is always going to be no.
Infielder and top-30 prospect César Prieto had a great series this past week. Prieto slashed .375/.400/.542 with a team-high .942 OPS.
He went 9-for-24 with a double and a home run. On top of that, he had four RBIs and two runs scored.
Joey Ortiz has been on fire recently. He was just named the Orioles’ Minor League Player for the month of July. And while he didn’t have the greatest series, he did enough to help out.
Ortiz slashed .182/.357/.364 with a .721 OPS. With only four hits, two of them for extra bases, Ortiz was still able contribute with six walks and four RBIs.
Moving on to the pitching side, only one name stood out. Garrett Stallings, who actually won Orioles’ Minor League Pitcher of the Month for July, had only one start, but he made it worth his while.
Stallings had a no decision but went six strong innings, giving up three hits, one run and five strikeouts. Stallings, who is now widely considered the Bowie ace with Drew Rom’s call-up, continues a great 2022 MiLB season down the stretch.
After this 3-3 split, Bowie has a 26-13 second half record and are currently 1.5 games behind the Erie Seawolves, who are on a seven-game winning streak.
Bowie begins their one and only series against the Yankees’ Double-A affiliate, the Somerset Patriots, who have already locked up a playoff spot in the first half. First game is Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. EST from beautiful Prince George’s Stadium.
