Shorebirds get swept to shore by Augusta

The Delmarva Shorebirds continue a disappointing season in such a negative way by getting swept 6-0 this past week.

After a very good week to end the month of July, it looked like a chance could have happened with some magic for the Shorebirds to make the playoffs. Everything came crashing down this past week in horrible ways.

Delmarva now has a 13-23 record in the second half and an overall record of 34-62. They are 11.5 games back in the second half standings and 23 games back overall.

On the bright side, they did have two hitters and one pitcher who had pretty solid weeks against Augusta.

Outfielder Mishael Deson continues to stay hot as of late with an amazing performance.

Through five games, Deson slashed .389/.500/.556 with a 1.056 OPS. On top of that, he had seven hits, including a home run and two RBIs with four walks.

Another hitter who had a solid week is a name we’ve heard a lot as of late. Luis Valdez, who has taken the minor leagues by storm, once again had a great week.

Valdez slashed .316/.381/.526 with a 907 OPS. He had six hits, including two doubles and a triple, and went 3-for-3 in stolen bases.

With a struggling rotation and bullpen, it’s difficult to pinpoint one specific pitcher, until we look at Moises Chace.

Chace started one game and got a no-decision, going four innings and giving up two hits and one earned run. He also had two walks and six strikeouts.

The Shorebirds are hoping to turn around this season with the upcoming matchup at home against the Carolina Mudcats. First game is Tuesday August 9, with a 7:05 p.m. EST start time.
