The Delmarva Shorebirds had a fiery week, taking five of six games from the Fredericksburg Nationals.
Every game of this series was a close matchup, with all the games being won by two runs or less, with the exception of the Shorebirds’ 11-4 victory in game six.
Darell Hernaiz got back on track, going 5-for-19 in five games with three RBIs and four runs scored. He recorded one double, while also stealing two bases.
Young catching prospect Creed Willems really showed out in his five games played. He hit safely in the first four games and ended up going 5-for-18, including his second triple of the season.
The Shorebirds bullpen was absolutely electric in this series and was a big reason for the success. They tossed a collected 26.2 innings, resulting in just five runs. All of the relief pitching kept the Shorebirds lineup in all of these games, hence how they were able to win a bunch of close contests.
Hugo Beltran is a name that really stuck out in a good way. The relatively unknown 21-year-old pitcher currently has a 1.84 ERA in 14.2 innings.
Beltran showcased his electric stuff in this series, as he tossed a total of 2.1 innings, allowing no runs and striking out four batters.
Isaac Bellony followed up his exciting end to the last series with another home run and four hits in total. He has elevated his average to .248 and now has an OPS of .804.
The Shorebirds, who now have a record of 15-24, see their next action against the Charleston River Dogs, the Low-A affiliate of the Tampa Bays Rays. Game on begins Tuesday night.
