Shorebirds take 1 of 6 from Pelicans: Weekly Recap 4/19/22 – 4/24/22

The Delmarva Shorebirds came back home this week to face off against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

This series started off hot for the Shorebirds, who then quickly fizzled off for five straight loses. Despite this near series sweep, plenty of our young players shined against the Pelicans.

Darrell Hernaiz is possibly the hottest prospect in the Shorebirds lineup, and he showed why again this week. In the first three games, he had four RBIs and added another home run to his hot start to the season. He now has 13 RBIs on the year and has an OPS above 1.000.

Young 21-year-old Josue Cruz’s bat showed up again in this series. He hit safely four times and also drove in four runs. He has six RBIs on the year, and four came in this series alone.

The Shorebirds have a young center fielder to watch, Michel Deson, who had another good series offensively. He hit safely in three of the five game he played and tallied five total bases.

Moises Chase delivered a beautiful first outing of the series, going four innings in the first game. He gave up no runs and just two hits in that game. Unfortunately, his second outing that saw four runs allowed over two-thirds of an inning wasn’t as great.

Carson Carter tossed a 2.2 innings, where he left the opponent gutless. That makes 3.2 innings of hitless ball between his last two appearances.

The Shorebirds see their next action starting Tuesday, as they visit the Augusta Green Jackets for a six-game series.
