IronBirds flying high after winning set against Grasshoppers: Weekly Recap 4/19/22 – 4/24/22

The Aberdeen IronBirds have started the South Atlantic League season off in grand fashion.

After a 4-2 week, the IronBirds are now 10-5 and in first place in the SAL North. They currently have a plus five run differential and hold the second best record in the SAL.

This past week, the IronBirds visited the Greensboro Grasshoppers in a series where they won four of six; they opened winning four in row before dropping the last two games by one run a piece.

Connor Norby rode a six-game hitting streak through the series, with his best game coming in the Aberdeen’s 8-7 loss to the Grasshoppers on Saturday.

Norby would collect three hits on the day, two of those hits going for home runs. He would collect a walk and a single, while scoring three times and adding three RBIs on the day.

For the series, Norby would hit two homers, score five runs, knock in five runs and collect three walks. He has a season OBP of .367 and is batting .286.

Shortstop Collin Burns had a stand-out week, going 6-for-14 across the four games he played this week.

In Friday’s 7-4 victory, Burns would go an impressive 3-for-5. For the season, Burns is .333 with three RBIs across 11 games, stealing three bases. His OBP for the season stands at a strong .395.

Infielder César Prieto was another star this week, batting .368 across the series. The O’s No. 12 prospect put on display his hitting talents, smacking four home runs across the series.

In Aberdeen’s 7-4 victory on the 22nd, Prieto would collect 10 total bases, going 3-for-4 at the plate. He would add two home runs on the game and bring home three runners, while scoring two runs himself.

Prieto’s week included hitting homers in three straight games, including his first multi-homer game. He collected nine RBIs and 26 bases across the series.

He would collect the South Atlantic League Player of the Week for his contributions in helping Aberdeen go 4-2 in the series. The young infielder is batting .321 on the year with six home runs and 13 RBIs. He is slugging .679, scoring 10 runs across 15 games.
