The Baltimore Orioles are at it again.
The lockout opened the flood gates for free agency, and as Birdland sits on the edge of their seat waiting to see if Carlos Correa follows Mike Elias, they have made other calculated moves to help provide depth and competition in camp.
Adley Rutschman has been shut down for two to three weeks with a tricep strain, so catching depth took a hit. Come in Mike Elias, as he is currently working on a minor league deal with Beau Taylor, according to MASN’s Rock Kubatko.
Taylor is a former fifth-round pick by the Oakland Athletics in 2011. He has since played with the A’s, Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Indians (now Guardians).
A career .118 hitter across 25 games, he strikes out once every three at-bats and has thrown out five of six would-be base stealers.
This move is more a fill in role for spring while Adley rests, but it gives Taylor a chance as a minor league option or a chance to catch the eyes of another team.
Welcome to Birdland, Beau!

Beau has thrown out 6 of 11 runners trying to steal. Not 5 of 6. The 5 represents the numbers of Stolen Bases (SB) and the 6 represents the number of Caught stealing.
