Hitting milestones in baseball is something we see every year.
Whether it is hitting your first home run, your 300th career home run or even your 500th, you remember that special moment and cherish the memorabilia that comes with it.
That is exactly what 31-year-old Pete Alonso did on Tuesday, reaching the 300-home-run mark for his career. Let’s take a look at his journey to one of baseball’s most prestigious milestones.
THE MOMENT
From his first home run on April 1, 2019, to his 300th career homer on September 15, 2026, Alonso has built one of the most impressive power-hitting resumes in baseball.
The Orioles entered the top of the ninth inning trailing 3-2. Alonso stepped to the plate and delivered a moment Orioles fans will never forget, crushing his 300th career home run off Kodai Senga to tie the game.
His monumental mammoth shot in the ninth inning in Queens made him the 171st player in MLB history to join the 300-home-run club.
BY THE NUMBERS
Alonso has spent his seven-year career between two franchises, playing his first six seasons with the Mets before joining the Orioles prior to the 2026 season.
With his 300th home run, Alonso became just the sixth player in Orioles history to hit his 300th career home run while wearing the Baltimore uniform. He joins Rafael Palmeiro, Eddie Murray, Cal Ripken Jr., Harold Baines and Boog Powell.
Alonso is also the second-youngest player on that list to reach the milestone as an Oriole. He did so at 31 years and nine months, trailing only Murray, who was 31 years and five months old.
Alonso’s 300th home run also comes during another impressive season from the first baseman. Excluding the shortened 2020 season, Alonso has hit at least 30 home runs in every season of his career, including his rookie campaign in 2019 when he set the MLB rookie home run record with 53.
The Polar Bear has also homered against all 30 other MLB teams and has taken 243 different pitchers deep. His most home runs against any team have come against the Miami Marlins, with 33. He has also homered five times against two different pitchers: Aaron Nola and Patrick Corbin.
There is always something special about watching a player reach a career milestone. The Orioles have witnessed players reach the 3,000-hit club, the 500-home-run club, throw no-hitters and accomplish countless other historic feats.
But there is something extra special about being able to say a career milestone happened while wearing the Orange and Black with “Orioles” across the front of the jersey.
