O’s Rylan Bannon named Triple-A East POTW

Rylan Bannon has been a surprise for the Orioles since being acquired by the team in 2018 from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Part of the Manny Machado trade, the rewards Oriole fans keep waiting for have yet to fully blossom. That might be changing in more ways than many fans have expected.

Bannon has been named Triple-A East Player of the Week. It wasn’t like he just had a good week and made a mark on the season; it was a week that caught the attention of quite a few in Birdland and beyond.

For the week, Bannon not only hit five home runs for Triple-A Norfolk, but he scored six runs and tallied nine RBI. What really turned heads was that he batted an even .500 for the week, going 7-for-14. He also walked five times and struck out just once during the week.

Always viewed as a bat-first player who can handle second and third at any time, the 25-year-old has been trying to prove his worth to the new regime. Seeing short time in spring training, Bannon walked eight times in 26 at-bats but managed to only bat .167, which didn’t lead to the Orioles trusting him to start the season at the big league level.

He is doing his best to turn the heads in the organization, and after last week, he seems to have made a major stamp on a passport to the future.

The Baltimore Battery would like to congratulate Rylan for his Player of the Week honors! We look forward to many more showings to come!
