Aberdeen splits series with Wilmington: Weekly Recap 5/18/21 – 5/23/21

The Aberdeen IronBirds split their six-game series with the Wilmington Blue Rocks at three games a piece.

This week saw another fantastic performance by the O’s No. 2 prospect, Grayson Rodriguez. The tall, young right-hander went six innings of one run ball and struck out eight in a winning effort. This outing earned Rodriguez the High-A East Pitcher of the Week honors.

Right-hander Kyle Brnovich pitched twice this series, as he pitched well the first game and terribly in the second. Brnovich won his first start, going five innings, while giving up just one earned run and striking out six. He didn’t even get out of the first inning in his second appearance, as he game up eight runs.

As for the offense, Kyle Stowers, the O’s No. 23 prospect, went 10-for-22 (.455) with a homer and seven RBI. O’s No. 30 prospect, Joey Ortiz, also had a great week, going 6-for-20 (.300).

The IronBirds are back on the road this week, as they visit the Brooklyn Cyclones beginning Tuesday night. You can catch every Aberdeen IronBirds game on MiLB.TV!
