The Aberdeen IronBirds kicked off their 2021 season on May 4, 2021, their first game since September 2, 2019. Then a part of the shortened season NY-Pen League, the IronBirds now are the Orioles’ Single-A affiliate and feature a plethora of what could be future studs in their roster.
The IronBirds began the season with a six-game series against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Aberdeen dominated this entire series, losing just the last game. With four wins by starting pitchers and only 13 runs allowed in the series, the IronBirds look to be a threat in the High-A East Division.
So far, the starting pitching for Aberdeen has been as good as advertised. Highly-touted prospects Grayson Rodriguez, Garrett Stallings, and Drew Rom are featured in that rotation. Along with Kyle Brnovich and Ryan Wilson, the rotation has pitched to an astounding 0.60 ERA in six games.
The IronBirds pitching staff also includes Blaine Knight and Garrett Farmer, who have pitched a collective eight innings of no run ball.
Offensively, the IronBirds have done enough to assist their stellar pitching. While the pitching has a bunch of great prospects, so does the rest of the team. Kyle Stowers, AJ Graffanino, Zach Watson, and Adam Hall highlight that defense and batting order.
In his first six games, Kyle Stowers has been a threat at the plate, as he is leading the team with eight RBI and one home run. Shortstop Joseph Ortiz has also been hot to start, hitting .348 with a 1.010 OPS.
