According to multiple industry sources, Matt Blood, the vice president of player and staff development and a longtime member of the Baltimore Orioles’ front office, is no longer with the organization.
Blood came to the Orioles in 2019 as part of then-general manager Mike Elias’ front-office team during his first season with the organization.
During his time with the Orioles, Blood rose through the ranks and oversaw various aspects of player development before taking charge of the MLB Draft for the Birds in 2024 and 2025.
Blood became the vice president of player and staff development last November, a role in which he was expected to work closely with manager Craig Albernaz. He was tasked with supporting the major-league coaching staff while also overseeing minor-league player development and operations.
In all, Blood was juggling many aspects of the organization and became a fall guy for various issues that have plagued the Orioles this season.
Blood came to Baltimore from the Texas Rangers organization, where he served as director of player development and baseball innovations. Before that, he worked as a scout for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Upon joining the Orioles, Blood was hired with responsibilities that included staff recruitment, technology programs and player development strategies throughout the minor-league system.
The Orioles, through a spokesman, and Blood, via text message, both declined to comment on his departure.
