The Baltimore Orioles made another roster move on Thursday, claiming veteran catcher Yohel Pozo off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals.
To make room for Pozo on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated outfielder Johnathan Rodríguez for assignment.
Pozo, 29, has appeared in parts of three major-league seasons with the Texas Rangers and Cardinals. A right-handed hitter, he has shown flashes of offensive production during his big-league opportunities while also putting together consistently strong numbers throughout his minor-league career.
After re-signing with St. Louis before the 2026 season, Pozo served as catching depth and appeared in the majors before being designated for assignment last week. Baltimore quickly swooped in, adding another experienced backstop to an organization that has relied heavily on its catching depth this season.
In parts of three big-league seasons, Pozo has a slash line of .247/.273/.363 with an OPS of .637. In his 66 total hits, 19 have gone for extra bases, as the Venezuelan native has collected 33 RBIs in 106 games.
The corresponding move sees Johnathan Rodríguez designated for assignment after a brief stint in the organization.
Baltimore acquired Rodríguez from the Cleveland Guardians just before Opening Day in exchange for Carter Rustad. He spent most of the season with Triple-A Norfolk, where he produced respectable offensive numbers but struggled to make an impact during his limited time with the Birds.
The Orioles now have seven days to trade Rodríguez or attempt to pass him through waivers. If he clears waivers, he can be outrighted to Norfolk provided he accepts the assignment.
