The first day of the 2026 MLB Draft is in the books, and 135 high school and college players saw their dreams become reality after hearing their names called.
Four of those prospects are now headed to the Baltimore Orioles organization. Here is a closer look at the Birds’ selections from Day 1 of this year’s draft.
Round 1, Pick 7: Eric Booth Jr. – OF / Oak Grove HS
The Orioles kicked off the draft by selecting high school outfielder Eric Booth Jr. with the seventh overall pick. The 18-year-old was ranked No. 6 on MLB Pipeline’s Top 250 Draft Prospects list.
At 6-foot and 207 pounds, Booth is a left-handed hitter who profiles as one of the most athletic players in the class. MLB Pipeline grades his hit tool at 55, his speed at 80 and his fielding at 55, while both his power and arm receive 50 grades.
Booth projects as a dynamic top-of-the-order hitter. If his bat continues to develop, the Orioles may have landed another impact player at the top of its system.
Round 2, Pick 46: Ty Head – OF / NC State
Baltimore continued to add athleticism to its outfield by selecting NC State’s Ty Head with the 46th overall pick. Head was ranked No. 60 on MLB Pipeline’s Top 250 Draft Prospects list.
Head wrapped up his sophomore season with the Wolfpack by posting career-highs with 12 home runs, 57 walks and 26 stolen bases. He finished his collegiate career with a .279/.447/.466 slash line, a .913 OPS and an outstanding 105-to-50 walk-to-strikeout ratio.
His advanced discipline, on-base ability and above average speed make him one of the more intriguing players in the 2026 class. The Orioles have consistently valued hitters who control the strike zone, and Head certainly fits that mold.
Round 3, Pick 82: Dominic Voegele – RHP / Kansas
The Orioles selected its first pitcher by taking right-hander Dominic Voegele from the University of Kansas with the 82nd overall pick. Despite ranking No. 205 on MLB Pipeline’s Top 250 list, Voegele brings plenty of upside.
During his junior season, he posted a 5.85 ERA across 97 innings while striking out 120 batters, setting a Kansas single-season record.
Over his collegiate career, Voegele compiled a 5.22 ERA in 274.1 innings with 289 strikeouts, 100 walks and a .251 opponents’ batting average. While the ERA definitely leaves room for improvement, his ability to miss bats and limit free passes gives the O’s a pitcher with intriguing developmental potential.
Round 4, Pick 110: Kevin Roberts Jr. – OF / Jackson Prep
The Orioles made it three outfielders in the first four selections by drafting Kevin Roberts Jr. from Jackson Prep with the 110th overall pick. Roberts was ranked No. 136 on MLB Pipeline’s Top 250 list.
The 6-foot-5, 17-year-old is an impressive athlete. MLB Pipeline grades his power at 55 and his speed at 60, while his hit tool sits at 40 and his arm at 50.
One interesting note is that Roberts is also listed as a pitcher on Jackson Prep’s website, adding another layer of intrigue to his long-term development. Whether he remains solely in the outfield or eventually gets an opportunity on the mound, the Orioles are clearly betting on his athletic upside.
