Between rain delays, offensive explosions and tight finishes, several prospects stood out with impressive performances this past week down on the Baltimore Orioles farm system.
Let’s not waste any time. Here are this week’s top performers from each affiliate.
Triple-A Norfolk: Payton Eeles – INF / Geraldo Ogando – RHP
A relatively quiet offseason acquisition from the Minnesota Twins organization, Payton Eeles continues to turn heads with an explosive month of May.
Against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, Eeles went 9-for-20 (.450) with a double, a home run, five RBIs and four stolen bases. The 26-year-old is now slashing .400/.500/.491 in May with a homer, seven RBIs, six runs scored and five steals while drawing 11 walks against just nine strikeouts.
On the pitching side, right-handed reliever Geraldo Ogando once again outperformed the Norfolk rotation. Ogando made two appearances during the week, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out five.
Through 14 appearances this season, Ogando owns a 5.29 ERA and 1.71 WHIP across 17 innings. Despite ongoing command issues — 18 walks — opponents are hitting just .183 against him, and he has collected two holds and a save while striking out 21 batters.
Double-A Chesapeake: Aron Estrada – INF / Evan Yates – RHP
Another young middle infielder making noise in the system, Aron Estrada put together another strong week for Chesapeake.
Facing the Somerset Patriots, Estrada hit .333 with three multi-hit games, including a double, two home runs, five RBIs, five runs scored and a stolen base. He now has seven multi-hit performances in 18 games during the month of May.
For the season, Estrada has improved his slash line to .264/.306/.399 with 39 hits, five doubles and five home runs across 39 games. He has also shown improved plate discipline, averaging a career-best 3.78 pitches per plate appearance.
Right-hander Evan Yates delivered one of the organization’s best starts of the week despite Chesapeake falling 2-1 to Somerset.
Yates tossed 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while throwing 49 strikes across 79 pitches.
The 24-year-old has now made eight starts this season, posting a 3.62 ERA across 37.1 innings while holding opponents to a .221 batting average. Yates has also lowered his pitches-per-inning rate to a career-best 15.75.
High-A Frederick: Braylin Tavera – OF / Boston Bateman – LHP
Braylin Tavera put together one of the loudest offensive weeks in the system for Frederick.
In four games, the 21-year-old outfielder slashed .333/.429/.833 with a 1.262 OPS, collecting four hits, four RBIs and two home runs — both coming during a May 24 doubleheader.
Tavera is in the middle of a breakout campaign, slashing .277/.377/.462 with an .839 OPS. The former Top 30 prospect has totaled six home runs, 18 RBIs and 13 stolen bases while continuing to rebuild his prospect stock.
On the mound, No. 11 Orioles prospect Boston Bateman continued his dominant May.
Bateman tossed 5.2 innings on May 20, allowing just two hits while striking out six.
The left-hander now owns a 3.62 ERA across 32.1 innings this season with 39 strikeouts. Even more impressive has been his May dominance, where he has posted a microscopic 0.59 ERA.
Low-A Delmarva: Andres Nolaya – C / Caden Hunter – RHP
Andres Nolaya may not be one of the Orioles system’s most recognizable names yet, but the 21-year-old catcher had a breakout week for Delmarva.
In five games, Nolaya hit .368 with a .907 OPS, recording seven hits, a home run, two RBIs and four stolen bases.
On the season, he is slashing .283/.381/.406 with 30 hits, 16 RBIs and 10 steals in 10 attempts.
Right-hander Caden Hunter followed up his Carolina League Player of the Week honors with another dominant outing.
The 22-year-old right-hander struck out nine batters across four innings while allowing just one earned run on two hits.
The 2025 draft pick has been outstanding this season, posting a 1.17 ERA over 23 innings with 40 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .113 batting average. Hunter continues to establish himself as one of the breakout arms in the system.
