The Baltimore Orioles have acquired infielder Bryan Ramos from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for cash considerations, the club announced on Sunday.
To make room on the 40-man roster for Ramos, Baltimore has designated infielder Weston Wilson for assignment.
Ramos, 23, enters a new chapter after spending his entire professional career with the White Sox organization. Originally signed as an international free agent out of Cuba in 2018, he steadily climbed through the minor leagues and was once a highly regarded prospect, ranked as high as No. 3 in Chicago’s system entering both the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Ramos made his major league debut on May 4, 2024, but has struggled to find consistent success at the big league level. In 36 career games with Chicago across the 2024 and 2025 seasons, Ramos has posted a .198 batting average, with three home runs and 13 RBIs, and a .577 OPS through the end of the 2025 season.
While his time in the majors has been limited and uneven, Ramos’ minor league track record hints at power and on-base ability. In 2023 at Double-A Birmingham, he hit 14 home runs with 48 RBIs and a .708 OPS in 95 games before advancing to Triple-A Charlotte.
Reports from the 2025 Triple-A season show Ramos combining some pop with above-average speed, logging 14 home runs and 13 stolen bases while slashing .218/.317/.391 across nearly 400 plate appearances.
Defensively, Ramos has spent most of his time at third base but has seen work at other infield spots, adding some versatility that could appeal to a club looking for depth.
Ramos represents a relatively low-risk addition with intriguing upside. Offensively, he has yet to translate his minor league promise into consistent big league production, but at 23 years old and controllable for several more seasons, he could contribute in a bench or platoon role if he takes a step forward.
We would like to welcome Bryan Ramos to Birdland and look forward to seeing his continued development.
