The Baltimore Orioles are in agreement on a two-year, $28 million deal with late-inning reliever Ryan Helsley, per industry sources.

The deal includes a opt-out after the first season. If all goes well with the pending physical, we can expect to have a replacement for Félix Bautista in 2026.

Helsley was drawing interest from many teams around the league as a closer and as a potential starter.

Regardless of how you think of Helsley’s 2025 campaign went, he will be a great addition to the back-end of the Orioles’ bullpen.

In 2025, Helsley posted an ERA of 4.50 with 63 strikeouts in 58 appearances. That ERA inflated when he was traded to the New York Mets prior to the trade deadline. While with the St. Louis Cardinals, the Oklahoma native had an ERA of 3.00 in 36 appearances.

Throughout his nine-year career, Helsley has a WAR of 7.3 and an ERA of 2.96. He has converted 105 saves in that span, striking out 377 to walking 132.

Only two relievers have at least 100 saves and 11.5 K/9 since 2022: Former Oriole product Josh Hader and Ryan Helsley.

With the pressure on president of baseball operations and acting-GM Mike Elias from Birdland fans, this is one way to kick-off the offseason and push this ball club back into a winning one for years to come.

We would like to welcome Ryan Helsley to Birdland and wish him nothing but success in the coming year.

One response to “O’s sign right-hander Ryan Helsley to 2-year deal”

  1. This is exactly the type of signing this club needs to convince the fanbase it’s serious.

    Very nice signing.
