New Baltimore Orioles manager Craig Albernaz is crafting his coaching staff together based upon ties from his past and what experience and knowledge they can offer the club, as the Birds look to return to glory.

On Monday, the Orioles hired former Chicago White Sox first base coach and outfield coordinator Jason Bourgeois (booj-wa) to replace the departed Anthony Sanders of the same position.

Bourgeois, a Houston native who is now 43, spent eight seasons playing big league baseball for six different organizations. He played for the White Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, Houston Astros, Kanas City Royals, Tampa Bay Rays and Cincinnati Reds, finishing his career with a 253/.300/.326 slash line and 54 stolen bases in 69 attempts.

Bourgeois also played for the Triple-A Durham Bulls with O’s skipper Craig Albernaz in 2013.

After retiring from the game, Bourgeois would join the Los Angeles Dodgers as a minor league coach in 2019. In 2021, he joined player development as an outfield and base running coordinator, sharpening skills for prospects like Mookie Betts and Cody Bellinger, a position he held until the end of the 2023 season before joining the White Sox staff.

With his role for the Orioles already in place, Bourgeois will work with outfielders as he did in Chicago but will also help to improve the team’s base running. The White Sox had a +4 run value when stealing second, an area the Orioles will try to improve. Despite being top five in sprint speed, the Birds ranked 19th in base running value.

Last season, Gunnar Henderson led the Orioles with 30 stolen bases, followed by Jackson Holliday with 17, though the O’s young second baseman was caught 11 times.

On a personal note, Bourgeois is married to American singer and Sony ATV songwriter, Coline Creuzot. They have one child together.

We would like to welcome Jason Bourgeois to the Baltimore Orioles and hope his knowledge is just another area that will help bring postseason aspirations back to Charm City.
