The final 2025 edition of MLB Pipleline‘s top 30 prospects list for the Baltimore Orioles has been revealed, and there is a lot to talk about and cover here.
We have a ton of new additions to the top 30, multiple players who were demoted off the list and surprise rankings all around.
For research purposes, the previous top 30 list we are referencing is the one that was released prior to the trade deadline.
Without further ado, let’s dive in.
Biggest Jump: Trey Gibson RHP – +5
Trey Gibson is ranked 12th on the updated top 30 list, which is a five spot increase from the edition that was released towards the end of July.
This season, Gibson has looked like a top dog in the Orioles’ system, as he currently has a 3.07 ERA in 18 starts and has struck out 135 batters this season.
The 23-year-old righty was recently promoted to Triple-A Norfolk as well, meaning that a debut could be looming as soon as next season for the former undrafted free agent signee.
Biggest Fall: Keeler Morfe RHP – -11
Keeler Morfe took a huge drop in the updated rankings, as he is now ranked 19th after making the top 10 back in July.
This has to come with his struggles in Low-A Delmarva, as he has pitched just 8.1 innings, walked 19 batters, struck out just seven and has a 14.04 ERA as a Shorebird this season.
The Venezuelan right-hander has also dealt with various injuries this year, which doesn’t help his stock. In the end, he is still just 19 years old, so there is no need to hit the panic button yet.
New Additions
Usually, we do a paragraph on each player added to the updated list, but there are 13 new players to the top 30 list. So, we decided to put them into three separate categories.
The first category is players recently selected in the 2025 MLB Draft, as six draftees were added to the top 30.
This group includes first-round picks, catcher/outfielder Ike Irish (No. 2), catcher Caden Bodine (No. 10) and infielder Wehiwa Aloy (No. 5), as well as CBA pick, outfielder Slater de Brun (No. 6).
Also added was second-round pick, left-hander Joseph Dzierwa (No. 16), fourth-round infielder Colin Yeaman (No. 17) and CBA pick, right-hander JT Quinn (No. 28).
The second category is deadline acquisitions.
In what was the biggest trade for the Orioles, the organization dealt All-Star Ryan O’Hearn and outfielder Ramón Laureano for top 30 prospects, left-hander Boston Bateman (No. 9), who tossed three scoreless innings in his first start with the Shorebirds, and infielder Cobb Hightower (No. 26), who collected six hits in his first seven games with Delmarva.
Also in this category is right-hander Juaron Watts-Brown (No. 13), who was acquired in the Seranthony Dominguez trade with the Toronto Blue Jays and has a 7.27 ERA in two starts with Double-A Chesapeake, giving up seven earned runs in 8.2 innings.
The O’s No. 24 prospect, 17-year-old infielder Wilfri De La Cruz, came in the Andrew Kittredge deal with the Chicago Cubs and has a .990 OPS in seven games for the DSL Orioles.
The final player in this category is Wellington Aracena (No. 29), who came in the Gregory Soto trade with the New York Mets. Aracena made his High-A debut and threw a four-inning shutout with three walks and six strikeouts.
The final category is for one player, and it’s the only guy who was already in the organization.
Right-hander Levi Wells has put together a 3.06 ERA in 68 innings of work this season with the Baysox, despite his 0-6 record. He is holding batters to a .239 average and has collected 68 strikeouts to 21 walks.
Demotions
Unfortunately, with 13 new players comes 13 players who were taken off the list. We will also split this between three categories: pitchers, infielders and outfielders.
For pitchers, right-hander Chayce McDermott goes from being the 10th-ranked prospect to being completely off the list. McDermott has struggled this season, posting an 8.22 ERA in the majors and a 6.97 ERA in the minors.
Joining McDermott is righty Cameron Weston, who currently has a 4.80 ERA in 101 innings of work this season at the Triple-A level.
Also, right-hander Brandon Young, who looked solid in his seven starts in the minors, is unfortunately not finding the same success in the majors, carrying a 6.70 ERA in 10 games this season.
Right-hander Trace Bright is starting to figure things out despite a career 4.23 ERA in almost 300 minor league innings of work. And finally, righty Alex Pham, who has been dealing with injuries this year, is finally back from his IL stint but is now outside of the top 30.
For the infielders, catcher Creed Willems has been a consistent hitter for the Baysox, collecting 74 hits and 39 RBIs this season. The same can be said for backstop Ethan Anderson, who was the highlight of the IronBirds’ to start the season.
We also have Griff O’Ferrall, who is currently hitting .236 this season in High-A and has 37 stolen bases on the year.
Rounding out the infielders is Leandro Arias, who is currently injured and has been having a down year, Joshua Liranzo, who is also struggling in Delmarva, batting just .198 in 39 games, and Emilio Sanchez, who has a .225 average this year in the DSL with a .656 OPS.
The final two demotions are outfielders Thomas Sosa and Jud Fabian.
Sosa has shown flashes this season, compiling six home runs and a .685 OPS with the IronBirds. Fabian was a surprising demotion, though, as he has a .779 OPS, 14 home runs and 57 hits this season, while also having a great glove in the outfield.
