According to multiple industry sources, the Baltimore Orioles are reuniting with right-handed reliever Rico Garcia, claiming the 31-year-old off waivers from the New York Mets.

Garcia pitched in six games with the O’s during the 2022 season. The five-year journeyman has spent time with the Colorado Rockies, San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics, Washington Nationals, New York Yankees and, most recently, the Metropolitans.

In nine games pitched between both New York teams, the Honolulu, HI, native has compiled an ERA of 3.52 and a WHIP of 0.91. Garcia has collected 18 strikeouts to just four walks in his 15.1 innings of work this season, giving up six earned runs.

Garcia is having a somewhat of a breakout-year in 2025. For his career, the former 30th-round pick has an ERA above six and a WHIP of 1.59 in 51 innings pitched.

Garcia is out of minor league options, meaning the Birds will need to make a corresponding 26-man roster move whenever he reports to the team in Philadelphia. If things go well, Garcia can be cheaply retained beyond this season, as he will finish 2025 with less than two years of service time, meaning he still will not have qualified for arbitration and will be controllable for five more seasons.
