It’s July, which means that it is officially trade season, and the Baltimore Orioles have wasted no time making moves.

According to multiple industry sources, the Orioles have traded right-hander Bryan Baker to the Tampa Bay Rays for the 37th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.

Baker is currently having a career year out of the pen. In 42 games, The Out-maker has a 3-2 record with a 3.52 ERA in 42 games and 38.1 innings, has given up 33 hits, 15 earned runs, has walked nine and struck out 49.

Originally claimed off waivers by the Orioles in November of 2021 from the Toronto Blue Jays, Baker has brought energy and passion to the Birds from his on-the-field celebrations after clutch strikeouts. The 30-year-old, who isn’t a free agent until 2029, participated in parts of four seasons with the O’s and has pitched in 173 games while wearing orange and black.

In return, the Orioles receive the 37th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. This puts the organization at having four picks in the first round, including the competitive balance round, and having seven selections in the first 93 picks of the draft.

In addition, the Orioles also get the Rays’ $2,631,400 slot value for the pick, which means Baltimore now has the largest bonus pool of any team in the draft at $18,874,500.

This now raises the question: Are the Orioles true sellers, or are they simply re-tooling? Only time will tell.

We want to thank Bryan Baker for everything he has done with the organization. We wish him the best in his future.

One response to “O’s trade Bryan Baker to Rays”

  1. What a bull-dookey move. I had all but forgiven Tank Elias for putting us through baseball hell over the past half decade, but after this move, I’m putting him back in my dog house. Doesn’t he see that our pitching staff sucks?

This guy is the greatest minor league GM in the history of the game, but frankly, I’m tired of looking towards Norfolk, Bowie and Aberdeen for answers.

    Time for Elias to go!
