There’s no question that the Baltimore Orioles have struggled to live up to their potential in 2025.

While many of the big league players have underperformed or have spent numerous weeks on the injured list, we’re going to focus on a workhorse down in the O’s farm system.

Today’s discussion is about 23-year-old left-handed outfielder, Dylan Beavers.

The former 2022 draft pick has been in talks of making his big league debut since the end of last season. Looking into it, though, it would take a few different things to happen for Beavers to get his opportunity in 2025.

Let’s discuss the three possibilities for Beavers and then give a final judgment on if he should make his debut this year.

INJURIES

No team wants to deal with injuries, but it’s just a part of baseball.

If another unfortunate injury were to happen to the O’s roster, next in line would be Heston Kjerstad almost immediately, and that’s saying this before Tyler O’Neill comes back and someone like Dylan Carlson or Ramón Laureano gets sent back down.

We also have seen Jordyn Adams play for the Orioles this season before Beavers, granted Beavers was on the IL himself during this time. We’ve also seen Jorge Mateo get multiple reps in center field.

Is there a world where Beavers gets his opportunity due to an injury to the big league team? Absolutely.

We have already seen it with Maverick Handley, who got the backup catcher call when Gary Sánchez went down with a wrist injury. However, Beavers is the third or fourth option to make his debut in the case of an injury to a big league player.

TRADE

It’s June, so trade rumors are starting to circle, and Cedric Mullins is starting to be discussed as a possible trade piece for Baltimore.

It makes sense, as he is on an expiring contract, and no one is ever guaranteed to re-sign. If Mullins or another outfielder were traded at the deadline, I think we will see Beavers this year.

If the Orioles turn into part-time sellers at the deadline, which is a possibility, it would make perfect sense to chalk the season and let the prospects play. Is it waving a white flag? Yes, for the season, but you would be giving Beavers a chance to see what he needs to work on and improve for 2026.

There’s also always a chance that Beavers himself may be packaged in a deal. He certainly would be an appealing piece for other organizations looking for young outfield options.

SEPTEMBER CALL-UP

Hands down, this is the most likely to happen if Beavers were to be called up this season.

The O’s No. 5 overall prospect is batting .320, has nine doubles, 16 stolen bases and is an on-base machine with a .410 OBP. We’ve seen in the recent past that prospects do get a chance in the latter part of the season to debut with the big league club.

In 2024, we got a secondhand look at Coby Mayo. In 2023, it was Heston Kjerstad making his debut. In 2021, it was Mike Baumann, and so on.

Beavers being a September call-up makes the most sense to me for where he is currently.

FINAL ANALYSIS

After reviewing these three topics, I would say that there is a 70% chance we see Beavers in orange and black during the 2025 season.

The outfield depth throughout the organization is the strongest for any position group. It won’t be an easy battle for Beavers, but if he keeps producing at the Triple-A level, it will be even more difficult for the Orioles to keep him down in Norfolk.
