After a rough opening home stand, the Baltimore Orioles have a chance to exercise some demons with a three-game set against the Royals in Kansas City.
After coming off a series loss to the division rival Boston Red Sox, the Orioles really need some positivism going their way this series.
Hoping to deliver that positivism will be Dean Kremer in game one (1-0, 8.44), as he faces off against Seth Lugo (0-0, 5.40). Game two will be Tomoyuki Sugano’s (0-1, 4.50) first road start coming against Michael Wacha (0-2, 2.35). The series will cap off with Cade Povich (0-0, 6.23) facing Kris Bubic (1-0, 0.00).
In the series against the Red Sox, the offense was extremely up-and-down. The Birds scored eight runs in game one, none in game two and then four in game three.
Last year, Lugo and Wacha combined for a 6.08 ERA against the O’s and allowed three home runs. The offense is in a good position to show off their power consistently this series. It will just be a matter of whether they do it.
ROSTER MOVES
Luckily for the offense, this series will make for the return of shortstop Gunnar Henderson.
After suffering a right intercostal strain in spring training, the superstar is ready to make a difference in the lineup like usual. Henderson notched two home runs and a handful of 100+ mph base hits during his five games of rehab with Triple A Norfolk.
In order to make room on the 26-man roster, outfielder Dylan Carlson has been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk.
BATTERY ❌️-FACTOR
Beyond the offense, the BATTERY ❌️-FACTOR for this series will be those three staring pitchers for the O’s.
The first time around for those three, it was not pretty. Although the O’s only lost one of the three starts, those arms combined for a 6.39 ERA, with 14 hits allowed and just 13.2 innings of work.
This back-end of the rotation will have to get it going against a really good Kansas City team that is coming off a down series themselves in Milwaukee.
GAME 1 STARTING LINEUP
Game one of this series will be on Friday evening at 7:40 p.m. EST, with games two and three scheduled for 4:10 and 2:10 p.m. EST, respectively. Each game will be aired on MASN, as well as your local Orioles Radio Network station.
