We are less than one week away from Opening Day, and the Baltimore Orioles have decided that today was reunion day.

According to multiple industry sources, the O’s have signed veteran right-hander Kyle Gibson to a one-year, $5.25 million deal, plus $1.525 million in incentives.

Gibson was a part of the Orioles rotation in 2023 when the club had their division-winning 101-win campaign. Gibson went 15-9 with a 4.73 ERA that season and was an innings. In 33 starts, he pitched 192 total innings.

Gibson’s 2024 season was spent with the St. Louis Cardinals, where he was a tad better. He pitched 30 games and 169.2 innings, compiled an 8-8 record, gave up 161 hits and 80 earned runs while striking out 151.

This will be Gibson’s 13th season as a big leaguer at the age of 37. However, it has already been announced that Gibson will have a delayed start to the season, as manager Brandon Hyde mentioned that the veteran righty will need to go through his own version of spring training before he joins the team.

Overall, the Indiana native has a career ERA of 4.52 with a 112-108 record, 1.375 WHIP and a 15.7 WAR.

With Grayson Rodriguez, Kyle Bradish and Tyler Wells starting the season on the injured list, the addition and familiar presence of Gibson is a welcome sight for a team looking for quality innings.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the aforementioned Kyle Bradish has been placed on the 60-day injured list.

  2. A very, very good pickup. He could very well play a major role for what promises to be the best team Bal’more has put on the field in quite a few years!
