The new year is fully underway, and most fans are counting down the days until spring training arrives and the start of the new season.

The offseason continues to roll, and that means more time for the Baltimore Orioles to engage with the community.

This past Wednesday, January 22, the Orioles Orange and Black Gives Back team joined with Coca-Cola Consolidated and Samaritan’s Feet and attended Harlem Park Elementary/Middle School’s middle of the year assessment pep rally.

Students were treated to a new pair of shoes and socks while also receiving a hope tote that included messages of encouragement.

Coca-Cola Consolidated also has partnered with the Orioles to help provide the Birdland Value Menu starting this season at Camden Yards. The menu includes a refillable soda cup and various items priced between $4 and $6.

Samaritan’s Feet is an organization that provides a message of love and hope by distributing new shoes and washing the feet of the underprivileged around the world.

To date, they have donated more than 10 million pairs of shoes in the US and around the world, reaching the 10 million milestone in October of 2023. Coca-Cola Consolidated and Samaritan’s Feet have partnered before in helping provide shoes and socks in other schools as well.

Venus Jackson, principal at Harlem Park, hopes that these events help influence the children and help them achieve their goals.

“If you see it, you can dream it,” said Jackson. “If you hear it, you feel like you’re part of it. I want them to know that when they leave Harlem Park, there’s nothing they can’t do, if they’re willing to work hard, set their goals and create a plan.”

The Orioles staff helped children fit into their new shoes, while over 400 backpacks of school supplies were handed out to each student.

I agree. They definitely are highly active in the community. And with Rubenstein being from Baltimore, I think we will see a lot more than from the previous owners.
