The Baltimore Orioles were expected to be major buyers in the free agent market this offseason, but unfortunately, that has hit a bit of a detour.

Though Gary Sánchez and Tyler O’Neill were signed, fans were expecting much more. Then, Corbin Burnes left for Arizona to be closer to his family, and Birdland is now waiting with impatience for a prominent move.

While that move has not yet come, the Orioles did make a deal to end 2024, as multiple industry sources have announced that the organization has signed utility man and former 2014 fifth overall pick, Nick Gordon, to a minor league deal.

Gordon spent the first part of his professional career with the Minnesota Twins, where injuries and struggles delayed his big league debut until 2021.

In 340 career games, Gordon is slashing .244/ .283/.386/.669, playing every position but first base and catcher.

Last season with the Miami Marlins, Gordon slashed .227/.258/.369/.627 across 95 games. He hit 11 home runs, drove in 32 runs while scoring 29 times and stole five bases.

This is a minor league deal and could be a low-risk/high-reward move, as the 29-year-old is versatile and has plus speed. Nick is the younger brother of former big leaguer Dee Strange-Gordon.

We would like to welcome Nick Gordon to Birdland and wish him the best of luck during his time with the organization.
