The Baltimore Orioles continue to build and add to their depth, signing three players to minor league contracts for the 2025 season.

As reported by MASN’s Roch Kubatko, the organization agreed to deals with left-handed pitcher Raúl Alcantara, outfielder Franklin Barreto and infielder Jeremiah Jackson.

Alcantara appeared in 37 games (two starts) with Double-A Arkansas and earned a 6-3 record with an ERA of 3.44 and WHIP of 1.34. The 23-year old struck out 65 and walked 42 to the tune of a .205 opponent batting average and an 8.3 K/9.

In 142 career minor league games, the Santo Domingo, Dominican native has posted a record of 25-19 and has pitched to a 4.93 ERA and WHIP of 1.50, striking out 357 batters.

Alcantara has spent his entire six-year career in the Seattle Mariners organization after signing as an international free agent in September of 2017.

Barreto, 28, played in 29 games with Triple-A Rochester in 2023, batting .202 with seven home runs, 15 RBIs, 17 runs scored and two stolen bases over 99 at-bats. He spent the 2024 season with the Diablos Rojos del Mexico, posting a .343 average with an OPS of 1.006, 16 home runs and 63 RBIs over 76 games.

Originally signed as an international free agent in 2013 by the Toronto Blue Jays out of Venezuela, Barreto was soon traded to the Athletics as part of a package for infielder Josh Donaldson. He would eventually become the top-ranked prospect in the A’s organization.

His highly-ranked prospect status never translated in the majors, as in 101 big league games played, Barreto has hit just .175/.207/.342 with a .549 OPS, nine home runs and 29 runs batted in over 228 at-bats.

Jackson played in 121 games with Double-A Binghamton in 2024, batting .206 with 19 home runs, 61 RBIs, 49 runs scored and 11 stolen bases as a member of the New York Mets organization.

The former top prospect infielder was a second-round pick of the Los Angeles Angels from the 2018 draft. In 2019, he smashed 23 home runs in only 291 plate appearances in rookie ball. He’s posted a .239/.307/.459 career slash line through just under 500 minor league games played.

Still only 24 because he was drafted out of high school, Jackson has joined an organization that has groomed some of the best young players in the game.

As we saw last season, you can never have too much depth throughout your organization with all the injuries of the grind that is a 162-game race. Keep an eye on these guys this spring, as they look to turn heads out of camp.
