It’s the final home series of the year, and the Baltimore Orioles appear to be postseason bound. They might be limping there, but it looks like reinforcements are coming.
The Detroit Tigers come to town as one of the hotter teams in baseball, as they try to catch the AL Wild Card teams.
Last week, the Orioles went head-to-head with the Tigers in Detroit and lost the series, winning only one of the three games.
This time around, the O’s welcome the Tigers to Baltimore after a dramatic walk-off home run by Anthony Santander broke a three-game losing streak. It just might be the jump-start the Orioles need to make their push to the postseason and halt Detroit on their quest to claim a berth.
The Birds will open the series with Corbin Burnes (14-8, 3.06 ERA), who pitched a seven-inning shoutout in his last outing against the Tigers.
Burnes will be followed by Cade Povich (2-9, 5.74 ERA), who took a loss after allowing two runs against the Tigers last week.
The O’s will close the series with Albert Suárez (8-6, 3.60 ERA), who will look to right the ship as the season closes. Big Al has a 7.24 ERA in three starts this month and has lasted less than five innings in two of his three September starts.
The Tigers will open and close the series with two “to be determined” starters, with Reese Olson (4-8, 3.50 ERA) slated to start the middle game.
BATTERY ❌-FACTOR
Now that we know the groundwork for the series, that leaves nothing more than the meat and bones: The BATTERY ❌-FACTOR.
This is as simple and straightforward as it gets. Make your mark.
Santander showed the never-say-die attitude, and it was the most excitement the dugout has had in a while. Let that be the bell that wakes the team up and marches along the path to the postseason.
There are nine games left to prove what the Orioles are made of, and if there ever was a time to come together, it is right now. The attitude, the determination and the ups and downs have all come down to these final three series. It’s time to ring the bell and make it matter most.
GAME 1 STARTING LINEUP
You can catch the first game on Apple TV+ at 7:05 p.m. EST. Game two will be at 4:05 p.m. EST and game three at 1:35 p.m. EST, both available on MASN. Each game will also be available on your local Orioles Radio Network station.
Will the Tigers pounce on the Birds’ postseason dreams, or will the Orioles protect the nest and bring the Detroit to their knees?
