The Norfolk Tides seem to have turned the tables and have started to return to the dominating team of highly-touted prospects that was having success in the first few weeks of the season.

Though they dropped the last two games, Norfolk was able to win four of the six games over the Nashville Sounds and are now just a game under .500.

The offense showed up, scoring seven or more runs in the first three games and finished off with some decent pitching performances, including a 2-0 combined no-hitter from Chayce McDermott, Nolan Hoffman and Kaleb Ort.

Let’s see who the stand outs were this week and who needs to look forward to the next series in this edition of the great, the good and the ugly.

The Great: Bruce Zimmermann – LHP

Though the offense was big in the first three games, it was Bruce Zimmermann who got the call this week. Though he took the loss in the series finale, it was his defense that cost him a great pitching performance.

Over the series, Zimmermann pitched 10 total innings, allowing eight hits, one walk and striking out nine. Zimm was charged with four runs in the two starts, but only one was earned.

The Maryland native is now 2-3 on the season and dropped his ERA to 4.58 on the year.

The Good: Coby Mayo – INF

Though Mayo didn’t have a dominating series, it was his consistent production that was a factor.

In the series, Mayo collected six hits, including three home runs and a double while driving in nine. Mayo’s best game came in Thursday’s 10-6 victory, when he would go 2-for-6 with a double and a home-run while picking up five RBIs in the contest.

Mayo is now is slashing .309/.370/.633/1.003 with 11 home runs and 32 RBIs across 33 games on the season.

The Ugly: Noelberth Romero – INF

Romero makes this week’s list for not only the series but his overall season.

The 22-year-old only played three games in the series, as he collected just one hit in 12 at-bats with four strikeouts.  He is slashing .100/.091/.100 at the Triple-A.

Romero has struck out 18 times in 45 at-bats and has collected just six hits across 18 games this year, slashing .107/.200/.107/.307 on the season.

The Tides are off today before heading to Memphis to play the Redbirds. First pitch is at 7:45 p.m. EST. Will Norfolk get over the .500 mark, or will the Redbirds hold the Tides at bay?
