On April 16, 2024, Colton Cowser had just finished a breakout of epic proportions, ending with an AL Player of the Week honor.
That night, I wrote down two words that I was not sure were going to become anything. Those two words read, “The Pasture.”
On Opening Day, Birdland jumped on the Cowser/cow correlation, mooing for Cowser as he ran down the orange carpet. Since that day, the costumes have grown in number, and the moo’s have grown in decibel level. As the ballpark seemed to be hit by a wave of bovine hype, I started to see how that two word idea could work.
To catch everyone up to speed, “The Pasture” is a gathering of fans in Section 72 on May 14 to celebrate Colton Cowser and the cow culture sweeping Baltimore. There is a link to discounted tickets on all my social media channels, and you may see it other places in Birdland.

When this idea started, I genuinely had no expectations. I would be lying if I failed to mention there was a part of me that thought it would fail. Long before the actual announcement, as this was being dreamed up behind the scenes, people seemed to be clamoring for it on social media. I was asked about it at the ballpark, and through all this, the heart behind the event is what makes it special.
My goal as a member of Birdland ever since I logged online for the first time was to spread the joy and excitement the Orioles and the game of baseball brings me. This event does just that.
Birdland is excited about this team. Birdland is excited about Colton Cowser. Birdland has been coming together each and every night to fill Camden Yards. Why not combine all three?
As much as this event is about celebrating Cowser, who happens to be my favorite player currently in Baltimore, this event is about bringing the community together for a night of fun.
There can be so much negativity and scrutiny surrounding every aspect of the game. Because the Orioles are good, I’ve seen this in more droves lately than I care to mention. However, if a night of people dressed in ridiculous costumes and mooing like cows can combat that, I am happy to play a part.
If you are contemplating coming out on May 14, I’d strongly encourage you to. You do not even need to be in a costume. Show up in your O’s gear.
Make this your one trip to the ballpark this year. If I had to give you one reason outside of the costumes, the moo’s and the silliness, it’s that you are going to meet a ton of fantastic people who love the Orioles just as much as you do.
I know I’ll be there, ready to spread more of the positivity we could all use more of. I hope you consider joining me. I hope you consider joining the…MOOvement.
