The struggles continue on the Eastern Shore, as the Delmarva Shorebirds have still yet to win a series during the 2024 season after winning only one game in a six-game series against the Fredericksburg Nationals.

Behind a great pitching ERA of 2.81, striking out 67 batters and only walking 24, the Shorebirds just couldn’t get the offense rolling with an OPS of .553 and only nine extra-base hits while striking out 50 times.

With that said, three players stood out this series, so let’s review the prospect performers for this week.

Offensive MVP: Anderson De Los Santos – INF

Last season, De Los Santos was a major part of the Shorebirds roster, and while it’s a new season, nothing has changed in that regard. De Los Santos played in all six games and had a team-leading .292 average and .763 OPS with seven hits, a home run and three RBIs.

After a struggle to start the season, De Los Santos is starting to figure it out, getting his OPS up to .552 and bringing his hit total to 15. Twelve of his hits have been singles, including the six he had this past series. De Los Santos is a contact machine when he is on the ball.

MVP of the Mound: Braxton Bragg – RHP

Braxton Bragg might be one of the most underrated prospects in the Orioles’ system. The 2023 draft pick pitched in two games, including a start this past series, and put together 6.2 innings of pure dominance, as he struck out 12 batters, walked just one and gave up only three hits.

Bragg brought his ERA down to 3.75 and increased his strikeout total to 20. His first game of the season consisted of five earned runs, and since that started, he has yet to allow a run to score in 10.2 innings. Bragg is someone who deserves to have a close eye left on him moving forward.

All-Around Performer: Luis De León – LHP

The O’s No. 17 prospect put on an absolute show this past series in his lone start. De León put together 5.2 innings of one-hit, one-unearned-run baseball, as he allowed just one walk and struck out eight.

De León, on the year, has started four games, pitched 16.1 innings and still carries a 1.65 ERA. He has only given up three earned runs on nine hits with five walks. De León just recently turned 21 years old, so he still has a lot of time left to develop.

Moment of the Series: Stiven Acevedo’s four steals

During Friday’s game, outfielder Stiven Acevedo really put together a show with two hits and three RBIs. However, the highlight of the day was that Acevedo snagged four bags in one game, impressive enough to earn moment of the series honors.

Delmarva continues their homestand Tuesday, welcoming in the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. The Shorebirds will be hosting a giveaway this week, as on Friday, May 3, they will be handing out a schedule poster giveaway to fans.
