Got milk?
Colton Cowser, rookie outfielder for the Baltimore Orioles, has been on a torrid start to the 2024 season. So much so that he has been named AL Player of the Week.
A slash line of .435/.482/1.130 would make anyone’s eyes pop. However, Cowser’s four home runs and 12 RBIs are what solidified this honor for the 24-year-old.
After a red hot spring training, Cowser continued to produce whenever manager Brandon Hyde wrote his name in the lineup. After a few mechanical changes to his stance and placement of his hands, Cowser is the total opposite of the player we saw in a brief stint in the majors last season.
In just 26 games in orange and black last year, Cowser struggled tremendously at the plate, slashing .115/.286/.148 with an OPS+ of just 28. The left-handed top prospect collected just seven hits and tallied four RBIs in 77 plate appearances.
This season, Cowser’s new approach has earned him a .474/.971/1.444 line in 14 games on the young season. He’s already collected double the total of hits from last year (15) and already has 13 total RBIs to his name.
Cowser is joined alongside New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso, who’s earned the NL Player of the Week honors. Both Cowser and Alonso hit four homers this week, but the former beat out the latter in RBIs by five.
We would like to congratulate Colton Cowser on his accomplishment. We can’t wait to see what’s to come, as the 2024 is only just beginning.
