With 17 games into the spring schedule, the Orioles have come out with 14 wins, only two losses and a tie coming into Tuesday’s game against the New York Yankees.

Recent addition to the O’s pitching staff, Julio Teherán, was set to make his second start and third appearance of the spring. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned, as Teherán went from holding batters hitless and scoreless in his first two outings to kicking off today’s game with a clock violation.

It was a sign of things to come, as Teherán was done after 2.1 innings and 52 pitches, 31 for strikes. He would walk three batters and allow three hits, contributing to four runs.

Mike Baumann followed and worked 1.2 innings. He walked a batter, ending a string of 13 straight batters retired. Baumann would strike out two and allow no hits or runs in his outing, running his scoreless streak to 4.2 innings over four outings this spring.

Bruce Zimmermann worked three innings, though he allowed six hits and two walks, leading to a run. Zimm did strike out two batters, throwing 52 pitches, 32 for strikes.

Nolan Hoffman wrapped up the game, pitching a scoreless inning, his third scoreless appearance this spring.

Offensively, the Orioles pounded out 10 hits, led by Jackson Holliday, Tyler Nevin and Connor Norby’s two-hit days.

Holliday played shortstop and led off, improving his spring average to .323 with a .957 OPS. He also stole his second base and helped turn a double play, as the top overall prospect continues to push for a roster spot.

The Orioles received RBIs from Norby, Michael Pérez and Donta’ Williams, as the offense scored three runs on 10 hits. They struck out 10 times while walking five times and finished the game 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

The Birds are back at it tomorrow when they host the Tampa Bay Rays. Tyler Wells will take the mound at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Florida, with a game time of 1:05 p.m. EST.
