FORT MYERS, FL – The Orioles are now six spring training games deep, and we’re really starting to see the growth of multiple top prospects, as today the Orioles beat the Twins, 12-2.

Dean Kremer made his spring debut today, and while he got the win, he struggled to start the game, giving up two hits and a walk before getting the first out. Kremer would give up a sac fly before getting out of the first.

Kremer would end up pitching two innings, where he gave up two hits, one earned run, walked a batter and struck out two. He threw 32 pitches and broke it up between a four-seam (14 pitches, 44%), cutter (six pitches, 19%), curveball (five pitches, 16%), changeup (four pitches, 13%) and sinker (three pitches, 9%).

Kremer saw a dip in his velocity in all of his pitches, especially in his cutter,  dropping from an average velocity of 94.6 in 2023 to 92.4 in the game. It’s the first outing for him, however, so we shouldn’t put too much into it.

Bryan Baker entered the game and pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up one hit, walking a batter and striking out two. It was Baker’s second appearance of the spring.

Jonathan Heasley entered right after for his second outing of the spring and would pitch a solid 1.1 innings of work.

Albert Suárez would enter in the fifth for his first appearance in a spring training game since 2018. He would pitch two flawless innings, collecting two strikeouts. Luis González would enter in the seventh and immediately struggle after giving up a one-out solo shot. He would give up another hit before getting out of the seventh.

Wandisson Charles would enter in the eighth and strike out one and walk a batter. Ryan Watson would pitch the ninth and would give up two hits, a walk and an earned run to finish out the game.

The offense spent no time scoring, as Ramón Urías slugged a two-run home run in the second inning, following a leadoff double by Austin Hays.

It would be the third inning where Urías and Jordan Westburg would have RBI singles, and Colton Cowser would hit a 428-foot homer for his second of the spring. Hays would also have a sac fly in the fourth, making it 8-1 after four.

The Orioles wouldn’t pick up the scoring again until the seventh, when catcher Michael Pérez would hit an RBI single, scoring John Rhodes and Collin Burns, which would immediately be followed by Coby Mayo’s third double of the spring that scored Frederick Bencosme. Mayo is now 5-for-8 in Grapefruit League action with two RBIs.

Daniel Johnson would join the RBI party in the eighth with his second double of spring training, scoring Errol Robinson. The Orioles would have 17 total hits in the game.

The O’s have moved to 5-1 in the Grapefruit League and will pick back up tomorrow against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The game will start around 1:05 p.m. EST and will feature Paul Skenes vs. Corbin Burnes.
